Milwaukee Orthopaedic Group, Milwaukee, WI

Milwaukee Orthopaedic Group History

The history of Milwaukee Orthopaedic Group began in 1961 when three highly respected orthopaedic surgeons joined together to form Stone, Kagen, and Jacobs S.C.. This was historically significant as they formed the first medical corporation in the State of Wisconsin. As the practice grew, they were the first practice in the state to have groups of 3, 4, and 5 orthopaedic surgeons practicing together. Since the beginning, the group has maintained its central office in the downtown Milwaukee area. The evolving group decided to amend its name to Milwaukee Orthopaedic Group Ltd. in 1970. Four years later they moved into their current location at 1218 West Kilbourn Avenue, adjacent to Aurora Sinai Hospital.
Joseph R. Stone M.D. retired in 1986 after 40 years of practice. He now resides in Florida and still volunteers his medical expertise at clinics for the underserved. Louis Kagen M.D. retired in 1989 after completing 37 years of service. Unfortunately he has since passed on.
Paul A. Jacobs M.D. was one of the partner from the original founders. His orthopaedic practice included the unique combination of sports medicine, general orthopaedics, and orthopaedic oncology. Dr. Jacobs, before retiring had been joined by 6 other orthopaedic surgeons in the Milwaukee Orthopaedic Group: Drs. Sullivan (1979), Wartinbee (1982), Davies (1988), Gertel (1989), Heinrich (1994), and Gordon (2003).
Throughout the history of the group, they have been involved in research, and pride themselves in being current on cutting edge technology. The group is currently involved in significant studies involving joint replacement surgeries, and anti-coagulation medicines needed after major surgeries. Careful, scrutinizing consideration is taken before asking any of our patients to participate in these national studies.
Milwaukee Orthopaedic Group Limited has been affiliated with major professional sports teams, college and high school teams. Beginning in 1970 with Dr. Jacobs, and the partners in the group served as Team Physiciansfor the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club until 1996. They have also been affiliated with the Milwaukee Wave. The physicians currently are Team Physicians for the Milwaukee Bucks Basketball Team, Marquette University Athletics, and the Badgerland Striders Running Club. The group continues to maintain a strong affiliation with the local high school programs.
Our future goals are to continue to provide the best orthopaedic care possible. This is especially important to our group as we rely mainly on physician and patient referrals. We plan to continue to utilize to the fullest the specialized post-residency training of our surgeons in Sports Medicine and Joint Replacement surgery as well as general orthopaedics. We would also like to continue our involvement in the community through our commitments with high school, college and professional sports teams.

CoolSculpting Miami: Non-Invasive Fat Reduction
February 2010: Bowes Dermatology Group is one of the first practices in the U.S. to offer CoolSculpting, a new, revolutionary, non-invasive method to battle the bulge. The procedure is based on the concept of Cryolipolysis, developed by Drs. Dieter Manstein and Rox Anderson at the Massachusetts General Hospital – Harvard Medical School.
What is the CoolSculpting Procedure?
The CoolSculpting Procedure is a new, non-invasive way to gently and effectively reduce fat in targeted areas of your body, resulting in noticeable, natural-looking fat reduction in the treated areas. What makes the CoolSculpting Procedure different is its advanced cooling technology that targets and eliminates fat cells. Unlike traditional invasive surgical procedures, the CoolSculpting Procedure is non-invasive, with no needles and no incisions. There is no need for anesthesia and there is no recovery time. The procedure is performed in a medical office, under the supervision of a physician specializing in cosmetic procedures. The CoolSculpting Procedure for non-invasive fat layer reduction is available in the U.S, Canada, the European Union and other international markets. The CoolSculpting device is also cleared by the FDA in the United States fornon-invasive fat layer reduction.
How does the CoolSculpting Procedure work?
The CoolSculpting Procedure works by means of a scientific principle called "Cryolipolysis™ invented by Drs. Manstein and Anderson at Harvard Medical School." During the procedure, a non-invasive applicator delivers precisely controlled cooling to target and eliminate fat cells in specific areas of your body. When fat cells are exposed to cooling during the CoolSculpting Procedure, it triggers a process of natural removal, which gradually reduces the thickness of the fat layer. The result is a reduction in fat bulges that is visible in most patients in two to four months.
Is there downtime after the CoolSculpting Procedure?
There could be mild bruising in some patients, but there is no recovery time after the Procedure. You may resume your normal activities on the same day as your procedure, including work and exercise.
Will I benefit from additional CoolSculpting Procedures?
A follow-up visit should be scheduled with your doctor two to four months after your procedure to assess your cosmetic improvement and consider whether you can achieve greater fat reduction from additional CoolSculpting Procedures.
Am I a good candidate for the CoolSculpting Procedure?
Ideal candidates for the CoolSculpting Procedure are within their normal range of body weight, but have fat bulges that are not easily reduced through diet and exercise. They are seeking spot reduction for specific areas of fat, but are not considering a surgical procedure. The CoolSculpting Procedure is not a way to lose weight or treat obesity, and it is not a substitute for invasive methods like liposuction. During a consultation, your doctor can talk with you about whether you are a good candidate for the CoolSculpting Procedure.
