David Wimberley, Reconstructive Spine Surgeon, Houston

Dr. David W. Wimberley is a native of Houston, Texas. He attended The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Wimberley maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout medical school, graduated first in his medical school class and received the highest graduating student honor bestowed by the school, The Ho Din Award.

Upon completion of medical school Dr. Wimberley began his surgical specialty training at some of the most esteemed universities in the northeast. He completed his Surgical Internship and Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Harvard Medical School. He was honored when his mentors awarded him the distinction of Chief Resident of the Orthopedic Surgery Service at the world-renowned Massachusetts General Hospital.

Following his Orthopedic Surgery Residency training, Dr. Wimberley opted to continue his education and training as he began his sub-specialty, fellowship training. Fellowship training is recognized as the highest level of medical training available. Dr. Wimberley completed two additional sub-specialty fellowships at Harvard Medical School. These fellowships were in Orthopedic Spine Surgery and Orthopedic Trauma Surgery.

After leaving Boston, he completed a third sub-specialty fellowship, and his second fellowship, in Spinal Surgery as a part of the prestigious Thomas Jefferson University Spine Surgery Fellowship training program in Philadelphia. This unique educational experience allowed for combined training by both Neurosurgery and Orthopedic spinal specialist. Dr. Wimberley has been fortunate to receive both orthopedic as well as neurosurgical spine surgical training.

There is no doubt that Dr. Wimberley’s world class training has prepared him to provide exceptional care of your spinal condition. He is one of a select group of Spine Surgeons in the world to have completed three sub-specialty fellowships, two of those focusing entirely on complex surgery of the spine. Couple that training with the thousands upon thousands of operations performed by Dr. Wimberley on his own patients during nearly a decade of busy clinical practice as an attending surgeon in the Texas Medical Center and it becomes clear that he possesses both the training and clinical experience to accurately diagnose and successfully treat the spectrum of spinal disease
