Dr. Zaré is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in advanced laparoscopic surgery. He completed his specialty training in general surgery at Georgetown University, Washington, DC in 2002 . During his residency, he developed a passion for minimally invasive mothods of performing surgery and focused his training on mastering his laparoscopic skills. He was recognized with many awards including the "Outstanding Resident in Laparoscopy" in 2001 given by Georgetown University Department of surgery, for his skills and keen interest in laparoscopic surgery. He also received the prestigious "String of Pearl" award nomination in 2002 by Georgetown University Medical School for dedication and commitment to teaching. In his final year of training, he was a chief resident and received the American Board of Surgery In-Training Examination travel award.
After completing his specialty training in general surgery, Dr. Zaré received two years of additional sub-specialty training in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was also a clinical instructor of surgery at the University of North Carolina during this time. Upon completion, Dr. Zaré was appointed an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Boston University, and the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Surgical Simulation at Boston VA Healthcare system. In Boston he developed an active laparoscopic practice between 2004-2008 and established the division of minimally invasive surgery where young residents from Boston and Harvard Universities rotated for training. In 2008, Dr. Zaré relocated to San Jose, California. He and his wife Eva are proud parents to Ella and Maxwell.

Dr. Zaré's practice is a multi-disciplinary advanced laparoscopic surgery practice, dedicated to increasing patient access to minimally invasive solutions. Dr. Zaré is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
Publications and Invited talks
He has written several articles in journals including Annals of Surgery, Surgery, and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, on topics including Surgery for Severe Obesity, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Surgical Education, and Surgical Outcomes. Since 1994, Dr. Zaré has written three book chapters. He has given more than twenty scientific presentations at national and international meetings. In 2010 he was an invited panel speaker at the Northern California Chapter of the American College of Surgeons where he presented his work on single incision laparoscopic surgery.
