Dr. DiGiovanni is an internationally recognized foot and ankle surgeon. He earned his BA from Dartmouth College and MD from the Brown University-Dartmouth Medical School Program. Dr. DiGiovanni completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Brown University and several subspecialty fellowships:

Before MGH, Dr. DiGiovanni was a Chief of the Foot and Ankle Service at Brown Medical School and Rhode Island Hospital. He served as Program Director for Orthopaedic Residency at Brown and directed its Foot and Ankle Fellowship Program as well as the Joe DiMaggio Sports Foot and Ankle Center.

Dr. DiGiovanni has been honored numerous times as one of America’s Best Doctors and Top Surgeons. He was given the Excellence in Teaching Award by his residents and the Patient’s Choice Award by his patients.

Dr. DiGiovanni received the Order of Merit from the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation for distinguished philanthropy in the advancement of orthopaedic surgery and has been a member of surgical advisory boards for several major US companies. He helped patent many foot and ankle devices which received FDA approval, and he has lectured across the world on foot and ankle topics.

Dr. DiGiovanni is a fellow of the AAOS and remains an active member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. He enjoys active involvement with the foot and ankle care of a number of collegiate, professional and Olympic athletes.

Mr. Ivan Spika is a New Zealand and Fellowship trained surgeon. He specialises in knee arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery, hip and knee joint replacements and surgery of the lower limb. He also provides opinion and evaluation of general orthopaedic conditions and sport injuries.

He was born in Trogir, Croatia, in the province of Dalmatia, where many New Zealanders and well known New Zealand families came from as early as the nineteenth century.

He graduated from Medical school in Belgrade and also completed a four year specialist program in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Belgrade. He also worked in Switzerland before emigrating to New Zealand in 1994.

In New Zealand he undertook post-graduate studies and completed the national New Zealand advanced orthopaedic training program. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2007.

He then underwent subspecialist training in joint arthroplasty at Middlemore Hospital. He also underwent subspecialist training in knee arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery as a Fellow of the prestigious John Bartlett Melbourne Knee Fellowship in Australia where he worked with Mr. John Bartlett and Mr. Hayden Morris.

After this he travelled to Lyon, France to study under Professor Philippe Neyret, one of Europe’s leading knee surgeons, assisting his surgery and attending his consultations.

On his return to New Zealand in 2009 he gained additional experience working at Middlemore Hospital and in private practice with a senior colleague as a consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Since then he has established his own private practice based at Ascot Office Park. He also consults at White Cross Accident & Emergency Clinics and for the Shorecare group.

He performs surgery at Ascot Hospital.He is married with two children and has lived in Dunedin, Invercargill and Auckland.

Dr Sanjeev Gupta, Orthopaedic Surgeon Sydney Australia




Dr Sanjeev Gupta specialises in surgery of the lower limb. He has particular interest in joint replacement surgery (hip and knee), knee arthroscopy, and reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle.

He graduated from the University of Sydney in 1999, and completed his Orthopaedic Training in Sydney. Following this, he completed multiple subspecialty Orthopaedic Fellowships at world leading institutions. He has trained in Baltimore (Mercy Hospital), New York (Hospital for Special Surgery), and Boston (Harvard).

Dr Gupta has co-authored numerous publications, and is involved in clinical research. He is also a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney, and is actively involved in teaching of medical students and Orthopaedic Registrars.

Dr Gupta is a faculty member of the AO Trauma Association, and regularly travels overseas as an International guest speaker.

Dr Gupta is married, with 2 children. Away from work, he enjoys skiing, golf, and tennis. He has had a long involvement with Sydney University Hockey, having previously played First Grade, and now enjoying time in the Veterans Competition.

Janus Schaumkel is a New Zealand trained orthopaedic surgeon. He specialises in hip and knee joint replacements, and knee arthroscopy and reconstructive surgery, in particular ACL reconstruction. He also provides surgical opinions and evaluations for general orthopaedic conditions.
Janus was born and raised in Auckland. He graduated from Auckland Medical School in 1997. Following this he successfully completed the advanced surgical training program of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association, and gained his specialist qualification FRACS (Ortho) in 2005.
Janus has subsequently undergone knee and hip fellowship training for 15 months in London, United Kingdom at:

He then spent 6 months in Perth, Western Australia, at the Perth Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre with Dr Peter Annear and Dr Jens Buelow, where he trained in knee and shoulder arthroscopic surgery, and computer-assisted surgery.
Janus returned to Auckland, New Zealand in November 2008 where he lives with his wife and three children. Since then, Janus has established a full time private practice based at the Ascot Office Park in Remuera. He also does satellite clinics at Eastcare Botany, Onehunga A and M, and at Westcare Henderson Lincoln Rd.
He has a particular interest in hip replacement, knee replacement (including computer-assisted surgery), and treatment of sports knee injuries.
