Jacel Brooks MD, CAQSM is a fellowship trained and board certified physician in sports medicine. He is trained to treat all adults and children. He specializes in non-operative management of orthopedic/sports injuries and osteoarthritis. He has special interests in treating the injured athlete, diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, and ultrasound guided injections, including platelet rich plasma (PRP). He believes in a multidisciplinary and evidenced-based approach to all patients.

Dr. Brooks grew up in Gadsden, AL, where he attended Gadsden High School. He graduated from the University of Alabama magna cum laude in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. He then attended medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After graduating from medical school in 2006, he began his residency in Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Dr. Brooks completed his residency in 2009 and moved to Birmingham to begin his Sports Medicine fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute under the renowned sports medicine expert Dr. James Andrews, Dr. Lyle Cain, Dr. Tracy Ray, and Dr. Jeff Dugas. While in fellowship, he served as head team physician for the University of West Alabama and Gardendale High School. He also served as a member of the physician team for the 2009 National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide football team. In addition he assisted with sports coverage for the MLB (AA) minor league baseball Birmingham Barons, Birmingham Southern College, Samford University, PGA Champions Tour Regions Tournament, Mercedes Marathon, and Alabama Ballet. He was also trained in use of musculoskeletal ultrasound while in fellowship.

He has served as a team physician for Jersey Village High School in the past.  He currently serves as a team physician for Cypress Falls High School.

Dr. Brooks has joined Dr. Mack and his team of physicians, physical therapists, and sports medicine specialists to further advance the specialty care of athletes of all levels in northwest Houston.

Dr. Brooks is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, and American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Brooks is a passionate collegiate and professional sports fan. He enjoys traveling, sporting events, tennis, and various outdoor activities.

Dr. Robert Meyerson is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and knee replacement surgery. He is double board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in both Orthopaedic Surgery and in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. Dr. Meyerson is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. He currently serves as the Division Chief of Sports Medicine at New York Presbyterian-Lower Manhattan Hospital and as well as the Coordinator of Sports Medicine for the Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center Orthopedic Surgery Residency training program. Dr. Meyerson has been intimately involved in the training of orthopedic surgery residents and medical students for 22 years. He served as Associate Chief of Sports Medicine at St. Vincents Catholic Medical Center, the Manhattan teaching campus for New York Medical College from 2002 -2010, and he served as the program coordinator for the Kingsbrook Jewish Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program from 1991 – 2005.In addition, he served as the Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Brooklyn Hospital Center from 2005 to 2007.

His interests in sports medicine began in college while playing baseball for Columbia University. Brooklyn born, Dr. Meyerson earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Downstate. After finishing his orthopedic surgery residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, he completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Hospital for Joint Diseases-Orthopaedic Institute. Dr. Meyerson has presented research at the annual meeting for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and at Specialty Day for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is past-president for the Brooklyn Orthopedic Society.

Dr. Meyerson specializes in the care of the injured athlete utilizing advanced techniques in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder. However, many orthopedic injuries and conditions do not require surgery and when appropriate, Dr. Meyerson strongly advocates conservative treatment including physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication, and activity modification. He cares for athletes of all ages,from adolescents to high school and collegiate athletes, as well as the “weekend warrior”. Joanna grew up in a family dedicated to public service. Her mother was a social worker and her father a teacher of children with disability. She knew at a young age that she wanted to be a doctor and improve health outcomes for children, adults, and the underprivileged. She has travelled extensively in the developing world and lived and worked in Vietnam as an Australian Youth Ambassador. She is committed to improving the health of our aboriginal population, especially in the chronic problem of childhood ear disease.

Joanna is 39 years old and is a devoted mother and wife. She has been married for 10 years to her husband who is also a surgeon. She has two children; Ruby 7, and Leo 3.

Dr. Rawal is originally from the northern suburbs of Chicago. After attending the University of Illinois for his undergraduate studies, where he received a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biochemistry with Honors, Dr. Rawal received his Medical Doctorate (MD) degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He then completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Rawal attended the Methodist Sports Medicine Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he completed his Sports Medicine fellowship. His fellowship training focused on the arthroscopic treatment of shoulder, knee, elbow, and ankle injuries. While in Indianapolis, he provided care to athletes at various levels, including students from Indiana University, Butler University, University of Indianapolis, as well as the NFL Indianapolis Colts.

In addition to his Sports Medicine fellowship, Dr. Rawal received fellowship training in advanced cartilage restoration techniques at the Cartilage Restoration Center of Indiana. His experiences encompassed cutting edge treatment and techniques in meniscus transplant, osteochondral allograft, and autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI).

As an Associate Master Instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Dr. Rawal devotes time outside of his clinical practice to teach the newest techniques in arthroscopic surgery to orthopaedic surgeons from around the world.

I am a fellowship trained Orthopaedic Surgeon undertaking the management of all aspects of shoulder, elbow and wrist surgery. I perform all arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs and stabilisations as well as joint replacement to ‘best practice’ standards. The spectrum of conditions I manage include tendon tears, instability, arthritis, fractures deformity and stiffness.

After completing my general Orthopaedic Training I undertook sub-specialty training fellowships at the Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery in Melbourne and then travelled to the Mayo Clinic Rochester USA where I undertook a Fellowship in Upper Extremity followed by Hand Surgery Fellowship.

I am the author of peer reviewed published articles, in medical journals and Orthopaedic Text Book chapters, (please refer to my section on Publications, Research). I have, and continue to present my Research and papers at Orthopaedic meetings such the Australian Shoulder and Elbow Society and frequently travel as Invited Faculty lecturing and demonstrating Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery.

Dr. Robert Meyerson is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and knee replacement surgery. He is double board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in both Orthopaedic Surgery and in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. Dr. Meyerson is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. He currently serves as the Division Chief of Sports Medicine at New York Presbyterian-Lower Manhattan Hospital and as well as the Coordinator of Sports Medicine for the Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center Orthopedic Surgery Residency training program. Dr. Meyerson has been intimately involved in the training of orthopedic surgery residents and medical students for 22 years. He served as Associate Chief of Sports Medicine at St. Vincents Catholic Medical Center, the Manhattan teaching campus for New York Medical College from 2002 -2010, and he served as the program coordinator for the Kingsbrook Jewish Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program from 1991 – 2005.In addition, he served as the Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Brooklyn Hospital Center from 2005 to 2007.

His interests in sports medicine began in college while playing baseball for Columbia University. Brooklyn born, Dr. Meyerson earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Downstate. After finishing his orthopedic surgery residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, he completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Hospital for Joint Diseases-Orthopaedic Institute. Dr. Meyerson has presented research at the annual meeting for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and at Specialty Day for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is past-president for the Brooklyn Orthopedic Society.

Dr. Meyerson specializes in the care of the injured athlete utilizing advanced techniques in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder. However, many orthopedic injuries and conditions do not require surgery and when appropriate, Dr. Meyerson strongly advocates conservative treatment including physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication, and activity modification. He cares for athletes of all ages,from adolescents to high school and collegiate athletes, as well as the “weekend warrior”. Dr. Meyerson also has extensive experience treating degenerative arthritis and utilizes the latest techniques in total and partial joint replacement surgery.
