Services

At RYC Orthopaedics, we provide the highest quality orthopaedic and sports medicine care utilizing an individualized and aggressively conservative approach. We strive to offer our patients every opportunity to succeed and improve with non-operative treatment. We have physicians that treat all joint problems and conditions. Our offices are set-up to provide efficient and precise care to all of our patients.

Digital X-rays – Our offices contain high-quality digital radiographic systems allowing physicians to obtain X-rays at the time of the office visit, speeding up diagnosis and treatment.

Ultrasound – High resolution bedside ultrasound is available to diagnose and perform precise injections in the office.

Bracing – Our offices supply a wide-range of medical devices on-site, as well as being able to arrange for custom bracing when indicated.

Casting & Splinting – Our physicians can apply custom-molded durable casts and splints for the upper and lower extremities on the day of your office visit.

Physical Therapy – Our 5th Avenue location offers in-office rehabilitation services. This allows our patients direct access to therapists and provides close communication between therapists and physicians. We work closely with multiple outside physical therapists throughout the five boroughs of New York City to ensure appropriate rehabilitation is provided for all of our patients.

Viscosupplementation – RYC Orthopaedics’ physicians offer this advanced non-operative treatment for knee arthritis. This series of lubrication injections is used to decrease pain and improve flexibility of arthritic joints. These injections are performed under ultrasound-guidance ensuring accuracy and ease of the procedure. Some common brands of viscosupplementation include Orthovisc, Synvisc, Supartz, Euflexxa, Gel-One and Hyalgan.

Platelet – Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections – PRP utilized the body’s own growth factors that are important for healing to enhance the body’s natural healing response in targeted areas. This cutting-edge treatment is available and patients can schedule an appointment to discuss the details of the technique and it’s value in treating specific musculoskeletal disorders.

Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Studies – Our 5th Avenue location offers in-office consultation for EMG and Nerve Conduction Studies to diagnose upper and lower extremity nerve conditions.

Salvatore Lenzo is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery. In addition, he holds a Certificate of Add Qualification in Hand Surgery, i.e., the equivalent of board certification. He is a member of The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at The NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Lenzo received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of New York University School of Medicine. He completed both his orthopedic surgery residency and hand surgery fellowship at the New York University Bellevue Medical Center in New York.

Dr. Lenzo is an attending physician and a member of the fellowship and residency teaching program at The Hospital for Joint Diseases NYU Medical Center. He has been named as one of New York Magazine's best doctors for the past 10 years. He has been in practice since 1987 specializing in all facets of hand surgery. These include trauma, reconstructive, pediatric, hand and wrist and microsurgery. In conjunction with his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Lenzo is published in the field of hand surgery and also has a patent on surgical instrumentation design.

Practice Information:

Our state of the art office is located at 955 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, between 76th and 77th street. Dr. Lenzo sees patients on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Dr. Lenzo performs surgery on Monday and Wednesday. To schedule an appointment, you can reach our office at (212) 734-9949. Our fee schedule is based on profession and community standards. For your convenience, our Billing Department can submit claims directly to your insurance company. Most major medical insurance plans are accepted. We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express as well as personal checks.

General Statement:

Many disabling conditions of the hand and wrist can be improved with surgery. This can often produce a dramatic augmentation in the quality of life or productivity. Conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative and/or post traumatic arthritis can be relieved by advanced reconstructive surgeries. Advanced methods of nerve decompression surgery are also practiced. Pediatric congenital deformities are also addressed. Arthroscopic diagnosis and treatment of difficult intraarticular pathology are frequently performed when indicated. This less invasive technique is one of the many advances currently used by Dr. Lenzo to assist the patients returning to their maximal functional level.

In addition to Dr. Lenzo, his practice also includes a physician's assistant who helps in treatment of care of his patients as well as an occupational therapist on the premises who can make custom made splints for the patients as well as helping them with therapy either after an injury or subsequent to a surgical procedure in an effort to regain maximal functional benefit from the doctor's treatment.

Dr. Robert Meyerson is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and knee replacement surgery. He is double board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in both Orthopaedic Surgery and in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. Dr. Meyerson is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. He currently serves as the Division Chief of Sports Medicine at New York Presbyterian-Lower Manhattan Hospital and as well as the Coordinator of Sports Medicine for the Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center Orthopedic Surgery Residency training program. Dr. Meyerson has been intimately involved in the training of orthopedic surgery residents and medical students for 22 years. He served as Associate Chief of Sports Medicine at St. Vincents Catholic Medical Center, the Manhattan teaching campus for New York Medical College from 2002 -2010, and he served as the program coordinator for the Kingsbrook Jewish Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program from 1991 – 2005.In addition, he served as the Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Brooklyn Hospital Center from 2005 to 2007.

His interests in sports medicine began in college while playing baseball for Columbia University. Brooklyn born, Dr. Meyerson earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Downstate. After finishing his orthopedic surgery residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, he completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Hospital for Joint Diseases-Orthopaedic Institute. Dr. Meyerson has presented research at the annual meeting for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and at Specialty Day for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is past-president for the Brooklyn Orthopedic Society.

Dr. Meyerson specializes in the care of the injured athlete utilizing advanced techniques in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder. However, many orthopedic injuries and conditions do not require surgery and when appropriate, Dr. Meyerson strongly advocates conservative treatment including physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication, and activity modification. He cares for athletes of all ages,from adolescents to high school and collegiate athletes, as well as the “weekend warrior”.
