Dr Blecher, Sports Medicine, Los Angeles CA

Dr Blecher is a physician at the prestigious Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI) where he specializes in Primary Care Sports Medicine. He was born and raised in New York and obtained his undergraduate degree from Williams College in Massachusetts.

He then graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. After medical school, he completed his residency in UCLA’s Family Medicine program at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles. This training provided him with knowledge in various aspects of internal medicine, women’s health and pediatrics that could be applied to the broad field of sports medicine.

Following residency, he completed a sports medicine fellowship at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. His fellowship responsibilities included the NFL Cleveland Browns and NBA Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as Cleveland’s professional hockey team and NCAA Division I collegiate soccer, volleyball and wrestling teams. The fellowship also provided him the opportunity to participate in the NFL combine and Cleveland Indians spring training. Additionally, Dr. Blecher has been part of the medical team for national and international events, including the Gravity Games, the U.S. National Gymnastics Championships, and the Ironman Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice, Dr. Blecher is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and is Board Certified in Sports Medicine.

In addition to providing medical orthopedic care to athletes of all ages, Dr. Blecher specializes in sports health and all medical conditions related to sports participation. He provides pre-participation physical exams, exercise and rehabilitation prescriptions and has an interest in nutritional and sports supplements. He lectures extensively on current sports medicine topics such as cartilage disorders and early arthritis in the athlete. As a runner himself, he also has a special interest in running injuries. Another area of interest is concussion in the athlete. Dr Blecher has years of experience evaluating and managing concussions on the sidelines as well as in the office. He has lectured extensively on the subject at many grand rounds and national conferences such as the National Summit on Sports Concussion. He is also one of only three Certified ImPACT Consultants in the greater Los Angeles area. Dr Blecher has also served as an expert witness in landmark cases involving athletes with head injuries.

Dr. Blecher is also a leader in the growing field of Regenerative Medicine for joints, tendons and ligaments. Using biologic techniques such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy, as well as injections and advanced imaging such as Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, Dr. Blecher is able to accelerate healing for many acute athletic and orthopedic injuries, as well as provide nonoperative, minimally invasive treatment for many musculoskeletal injuries that would otherwise require surgery or become chronic untreatable conditions.

Currently Dr. Blecher serves as a team physician for Los Angeles Valley College, College of the Canyons (Valencia, CA) and Notre Dame High School (Sherman Oaks, CA). He has also served as a medical consultant for ESPN and as the treating physician for the Summer X-Games in Los Angeles, as well as the WTA LA Women’s Tennis Championships and USTA Men’s Tennis Farmer’s Classic.  Dr. Blecher is also the Medical Director of the Center for Rehabilitation Medicine at SCOI and the Director of the SCORE Concussion Program.

In his free time, Dr. Blecher enjoys tennis, racquetball, skiing, whitewater kayaking, SCUBA diving and spending time with his wife and family.

Dr. Steve Stahle is the co-founder and Primary Care Medical Director for the US Center for Sports Medicine. He has dedicated his life to sports and sports medicine. Dr. Stahle graduated with honors with a B.S. in 1987.  He combined his passion for sports with his academic drive in math and science when he decided to pursue a career in medicine. Dr. Stahle graduated with honors from The University of Iowa School of Medicine in 1991. He then completed his residency training at Phoenix Baptist Hospital where he served as Chief Resident. While training in Phoenix, Dr. Stahle worked with the Phoenix Suns and Arizona State University athletes. He was awarded a prestigious Sports Medicine Fellowship at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation. During his fellowship, Dr. Stahle worked with several professional sports teams including the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Cleveland Ballet, along with providing medical care for the Cleveland State University athletes.

Dr. Stahle arrived in St. Louis almost 15 years ago and started the US Center for Sports Medicine with Dr. Lehman. The original premise for opening the medical practice was to provide unprecedented sports medicine and orthopedic care for the elite athletes of St. Louis and the surrounding Midwest states. He has provided individual consultation for athletes from the St. Louis Blues, St. Louis Cardinals, and the St. Louis Rams. He served as the St. Louis Marathon Medical Director for several years and continues to provide medical care and consultation to the St. Louis Track Club. Dr. Stahle provides independent medical consultation at his practice in St. Louis and at sites around the country for professional athletes who train all over the world.

Dr. Stahle is the first St. Louis physician trained in the use of the FAST procedure in treating serious soft tissue tendon injuries. He currently runs the only clinic in St. Louis solely dedicated to the FAST procedure. This procedure is considered a proven major break-through in the treatment of plantar fasciitis and tennis elbow. Dr. Stahle is currently researching the use of FAST for treatment of other tendon injuries including knee, hamstring, and shoulder.

Dr. Stahle is considered a regional pioneering expert on the use of Platelet Rich Plasma for treatment of soft tissue injuries and arthritic conditions. His research has increased the overall management of arthritis, and dramatically decreased the recovery time of musculoskeletal injuries. He is also currently researching stem cell advancements for musculoskeletal conditions.

Dr. Stahle is one of the country’s leading experts in the use of synovial fluid replacement therapy used to treat osteoarthritis. He has traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada lecturing and educating physicians on technique and research advancements.

Dr. Stahle is dedicated to maintaining the health of young athletes. He has provided volunteer medical coverage to St. Louis area High School football teams for 15 years. He is an expert in the field of football related concussions. Dr. Stahle is also passionate and highly knowledgeable about the use and abuse of nutritional supplementation, growth hormone, and steroids. He works closely with local athletic trainers, personal trainers, and strength and conditioning coaches who are training young St. Louis athletes to inform them of new research, rules and regulations, and other physical safety matters. He regularly educates and consults with area coaches/pros regarding overuse injuries in young athletes including tennis, baseball, soccer, and cross country.
