Women’s health refers to health
problems related to female anatomy. Various conditions do exist that
are confined to women and some of them may be debilitating.
Sometimes women neglect their own health and focus on partner’s
and children’s health. Some of the common health problems that are
unique in women include menstruation problems, pregnancy
complications, child birth complications, post-menopausal
conditions and breast cancer. Gestational diabetes is one of the
most common conditions occurring during pregnancy.
Certain conditions such as
osteoarthritis, obesity and depression are more common in women than
men. Conditions related to urinary tract include urinary
incontinence and urinary tract infections. Urinary Incontinence,
inability to control urination is more common in women than in
men. Recurrent urinary tract infections can contribute to
incontinence episodes. Women are more prone to urinary tract
infection than men because, the female urethra appears to be
shorter. Upper tract infections, in particular, are unusually
common during pregnancy. Reproductive conditions such as
endometriosis and premenstrual dysmorphic disorder (PMDD) are
confined to women. Endometriosis is a serious health complication
that can lead to infertility.
Regular checkups and screening is
important for early detection of cervical, breast, uterine and
ovarian cancer.
