Living with Reflux – Raising awareness of Gastro-oesophageal Reflux, Lincolnshire

Living with Reflux is a charity which has been set up by fellow suffers in aid of supporting families with Gastro-oesophageal Reflux (GOR) and Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD) and other associated conditions. Advised by our Medical Advisory Board (MAB). Along side this we provide support, information and educational recourses for medical professionals at large.

Living with Reflux was first registered with Companies House, as a private company limited by guarantee (non profit organisation) on the 18th February 2008.

On the 9th October 2009 Living with Reflux was further registered with the regulator for charities in England and Wales – The Charities Commission.

Our company aims and objectives are as follows:
  • To promote and protect the physical and mental health of sufferers of gastro-oesophageal Reflux (GOR) and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and their families through the provision of support, education and practical advice and promoting research into causes, treatments and possible cures of GOR and GORD;
  • To advance the education of the general public in all areas relating to gastro-oesophageal reflux (GOR) and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD).
Gastro-oesophageal Reflux (GOR) and Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD) are different. By definition, GOR is normal, whereas GORD is a disease.

Gasto-oesophageal reflux (GOR) occurs normally in all infants, children and adults during and immediately after meals. GOR refers to the contents of the stomach washing back up from the stomach into the oesophagus. It can wash up to the throat, and even be ejected out of the mouth;

Gasto-oesophageal Reflux (GORD) is present when there are symptoms or signs that are troublesome, or severe, or chronic, or when complications are present.
These symptoms might include:
  • Recurrent forceful vomiting
  • Vomiting of blood
  • Chronic cough
  • Chronic irritability
Such symptoms might indicate that reflux is severe enough to be causing a complication, such as inflammation of the oesophagus, known as ‘oesophagitis’.

Brisbane Urology Clinic

Women’s health refers to health problems related to female anatomy. Various conditions do exist that are confined to women and some of them may be debilitating. Sometimes women neglect their own health and focus on partner’s and children’s health. Some of the common health problems that are unique in women include menstruation problems, pregnancy complications, child birth complications, post-menopausal conditions and breast cancer. Gestational diabetes is one of the most common conditions occurring during pregnancy.

Certain conditions such as osteoarthritis, obesity and depression are more common in women than men. Conditions related to urinary tract include urinary incontinence and urinary tract infections. Urinary Incontinence, inability to control urination is more common in women than in men. Recurrent urinary tract infections can contribute to incontinence episodes. Women are more prone to urinary tract infection than men because, the female urethra appears to be shorter. Upper tract infections, in particular, are unusually common during pregnancy. Reproductive conditions such as endometriosis and premenstrual dysmorphic disorder (PMDD) are confined to women. Endometriosis is a serious health complication that can lead to infertility.

Regular checkups and screening is important for early detection of cervical, breast, uterine and ovarian cancer.

Patrick C. Ryan, Vascular Surgery and General Surgery, Nashville TN

Vascular surgery is a medical specialty concerned with the surgical treatment of disorders affecting the blood vessels and lymphatic system (vascular diseases) of the body, excluding the blood vessels of the heart. The incidence of vascular diseases increases with advancing age. Factors associated with an increased risk of vascular diseases include family history, advancing age, smoking, obesity, pregnancy, injury, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes, lack of physical activity and prolonged periods of sitting or standing still.

Vascular surgery is usually recommended when nonsurgical treatments fail to treat the diseases of the vascular system. Vascular surgery is often performed to improve blood circulation to an area of the body where the blood vessels have been damaged, following injury, disease or other conditions.
Vascular surgeons repair damaged or diseased blood vessels, reopen blocked arteries, and perform bypass surgery to bypass blood flow around narrowed or blocked arteries.

    Anti-Wrinkle Injections:

    Anti-Wrinkle injections are used to reduce lines and wrinkles that form in the upper face. As we age, changes occur at different rates to our upper, mid and lower face. In the upper face, ‘dynamic’ lines appear in the forehead and around the eyes when we smile or frown. These lines appear because various muscles contract to form different facial expressions. Over time, these expression lines begin to linger longer, or become deeper, even when your face is at rest (these are called ‘static’ lines). While a few lines add character, Anti-Wrinkle injections relax wrinkles causing muscles to help refresh your facial appearance.
