If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a condition that may require surgery, you owe it to yourself to learn about all of your medical options, including the most effective, least invasive surgical treatments available.

At Good Samaritan Hospital, the da Vinci® Surgical System provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, putting a surgeon’s hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art robotic platform. The da Vinci System enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision.

Other patient benefits may include:

    Significantly less pain
    Less blood loss
    Less scarring
    Shorter recovery time
A faster return to normal daily activities
And in many cases, better clinical outcomes

Urology: Good Samaritan Hospital is one of the few hospitals in Northern California to perform laparoscopic prostatectomies (removal of the prostate) , which are less invasive and result in faster recoveries for patients with prostate cancer. We also do robotic surgery for partial or full removal of the kidney (nephrectomy).

Gynecologic Surgery: At Good Samaritan Hospital, our surgeons use advanced laparoscopy in many gynecologic procedures, including fertility and cancer surgery. In laparoscopic surgery, we use very small instruments and make tiny incisions, which means less scarring, faster healing and less pain for the patient. In fact, one of our recent surgical procedures was televised live worldwide for an international laparoscopic conference. We are glad to be able to bring such leading-edge procedures to the South Bay community so that our patients can get the expert care they need right here at home.

We currently perform these gynecologic procedures using the da Vinci Surgical System:

    Hysterectomy—removal of the uterus
Myomectomy—removal of fibroids while sparing the uterus
    Oophorectomy—removal of the ovary
Ovarian cystectomy—removal of cyst(s) from the ovary

General Surgery: At Good Samaritan Hospital, our surgeons use the da Vinci Surgical System, with the latest in surgical and robotic technologies, to perform surgery through just a few small incisions. The system is beneficial for performing routine and complex surgery. The surgeon is 100% in control of the da Vinci System, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body.

Some common procedures we perform at Good Samaritan Hospital include:

Para-esophageal hernia repair—often recommended for someone with a large hiatal hernia and symptoms that may include gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Partial colectomy—when certain parts of the colon (lower or transverse colon) must be surgically removed.
Single site cholecystectomy—removal of the gall bladder using one small incision
