Associate Professor David Neale McClure, MBBS, MS, FRACS, FRACS (Vascular), has been in practice as a full time Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon in Geelong since 1999. At the completion of Vascular Board certified training in Australia, A/Prof McClure was awarded The Australasian Vascular Prize, as the top trainee. Further training in England, Germany, France, Belgium and the United States, provided him with a skill base to bring modern techniques of Vascular Surgery to Geelong. He has pioneered the introduction of endoluminal stent grafting of aortic aneurysms, stenting for carotid artery disease, lower limb artery stenting under local anaesthetic as an alternative to bypass grafting, and outpatient treatment of varicose veins by laser therapy, to patients in Geelong and the wider reaches of the State’s Western region. He currently offers the full range of surgical care to patients with artery or vein disease.

In addition to being the Director of Geelong Vascular Service, A/Prof McClure is a Consultant Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon to The Geelong Hospital, Barwon Health, where he is also the Supervisor of Vascular Surgical Training, involved directly in educating the next generation of Vascular Surgeons. He is a Clinical Associate Professor, School of Medicine, Faculty of Health, Deakin University, in which capacity he has been involved in setting the curriculum for medical students, student teaching and clinical research. He holds two fellowships of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Further, he is an executive member of the Melbourne Vascular Surgical Association, a faculty member of the Adelaide Vascular Trials, and holds membership of the International Society of Endovascular Specialists, The Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine, and the Australasian College of Phlebology.

A/Prof McClure’s research interest has led to him winning a number of prestigious awards, being widely published in peer-reviewed journals, and being invited to speak at a number of international surgical meetings throughout Europe and Asia. He has been involved in undertaking, and teaching, surgery at symposia in China and the South Pacific, and is currently a member of the International Faculty for Endovascology, China’s largest international endovascular meeting. It is a mark of the regard in which he is held around the World that a number of surgeons from Asia, Europe and the US have visited A/Prof McClure, and his facility in Geelong, for training.
